This weekend Blackberry is running it’s BlackBerry® All Aboard Port-a-Thon. The event rewards developers who port their apps and games from other mobile platforms to the Blackberry market. The goal is to have developers port over apps to the BlackBerry 10 OS using BlackBerry Webworks SDK or BlackBerry Native SDK, or Cascades for BlackBerry 10. Developers can receive both money and device prizes based on the number of games ported over. For more information and to register visit the Blackberry Developer Events site.
The BlackBerry® All Abroad Port-a-Thon Timeline
This Blackberry event will run over 36 hours and is completely virtual. Expert Blackberry developers will be on hand to answer questions and help developers build and/or port their games over to the platform. Developers can receive $100 per approved application ported over with additional prizes including a trip to the 2013 Blackberry conference in Europe if more then ten apps are ported over.
How I plan to participate
As you see in the picture above, I have been blessed with access to an Dev Alpha B Device of the Blackberry 10. I received one for the Atlanta HTML5 Hack-a-ton hosted by the meet-up group last month. It’s a pretty awesome device with cool features like an HDMI port and the ability to add a micro SIM card. My plan is to port the some of the applications I have created for the Amazon, Nook and Google Play app stores to the Blackberry platform if I can. Blackberry offers developers numerous ways to port your apps on various platforms including C#, Adobe AIR, HTML5 and Android. Of course I would love to be using the Android option to port of my Android apps but Blackberry says that will be the next port a thon event in January.
